Meena Durairaj is one of the several successful stars in South Indian cinema. Meena was born on September 16, 1977, in Chennai. She became a heroine at a very young age of 13 while doing her 8th grade. She acted in any adult roles and that gave her a really successful heroine.
Meena began her work as a child artist in the film Nenjangal in 1982 when she was 5 years old starring Dr. Sivaji Ganesan in the lead role. She later became a heroine in 1990 at the age of 13 in the film Oru Pudhiya Kathai. Before this, she did a small role in the movie Karthavyam which was dubbed as Vijayshanthi IPS in the equal year.
Rajinikanth’s Kuselan (Kathanayukudu in Telugu) got a lukewarm response from Rajini’s diehard fans and critics. Meena, who acted in the film in a significant role opposite Pasupathy, has said that she was not happy with the way the Kuselan team treated her.
Meena was still really young at that time she was doing child characters. Her mother Raja Mallika brought her to A.M.Ratnam's department for an offer. Even though she attended chubby, they thought she met the bill.
She has worked with Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and Chiranjeevi and later became a star in her own power. She had hits with movies like Muthu, Ejaman, Veera, Avvai Shanmughi and Mutamestri.
Following the announcement of her films with Rajinikanth in Japan and their business success, Meena's following rose in Japan. She has acted in almost all the south Indian languages like Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada opposite nearly all the best actors.
In the Kannada remake of Autograph, she essayed Sneha's role of Divya. Meena was a judge for a dancing game 'Mastana Mastana Season 1' in Sun TV. She also starred as the star actress in the Sun TV serial Lakshmi.
Roja Selvamani and Meena are best friends. Her other close friend is actress Maheswari. Roja and Meena, in their younger age, resembled each other so many. In fact, Meena has acted as Roja's younger sister at least in or 6 movies in Telugu.
She was in the film production as the top heroine in Telugu and Tamil for almost one and a half decades famously from the early 1990s. She often depicted characters with a unidimensional character with no negativity or grey shades. She was recognized to reduce glamourous roles though she has acted in a few like Maaman Magal in Tamil opposition Sathyaraj and Muta Mestri in Telugu opposite Chiranjeevi.
She is the only child to her mothers. She did her education till 8th std from Vidyodhya Schools in Chennai. Busy with the acting schedules she had to abandon schooling in the 8th grade, later bringing up private coaching and completed her 10th grade. She went on to get her MA in History from the University of Madras through open university system 2006.
