The movie is based on the story of the Greek mythological character Electra, although it has a modern setting in an aristocratic family in Kerala. It draws heavily on four changes of the myth: Electra by Sophocles, Electra by Euripides, Oresteia by Aeschylus and Mourning Fits Electra by Eugene O’Neill. Opener to the film is the idea of the Electra system; a daughter's psychosexual conflict with her mom for her father's love. A rueful look into the damaged familial bonds of a noble class in Central Kerala, the film explores love and loss.
