Long ago, a drop of sunshine fell onto Earth and turned a magic flower understanding of healing disease, decay, and injury. For numbers of years, the flower is replaced by Mother Gothel to maintain her youth, until officers from a nearby kingdom, Corona, find the energy and utilize it to repair their weak queen.
Shortly afterward, the Queen gives birth to Princess Rapunzel. While endeavoring to reach the flower, Gothel encounters Rapunzel's golden hair contains the flower's healing attributes, and that cutting her hair completes its power. Gothel abducts the baby and raises Rapunzel as her own daughter in a separate tower. Once a year, every King including Queen statement sky lanterns on Rapunzel's birthday, hoping for their daughter to see them and return.
