The film was selected as India's official entry to the Oscars to the Best Foreign Film category.

The original musical score and songs were composed by Ilaiyaraaja. He composed and carried his symphonic score with players from the Budapest Symphony Orchestra, Hungary. Guru is a fiction film. It is highly symbolic and makes a statement on terrorism by churches and the sins of the world. The story begins in a small quiet village in India. There is peace between the Hindus and the Muslims that are beyond.

They all get along like characters. Raghurāman (Mohanlal) is the son of the local Hindu temple's priest. When an ambitious politician's (NF Varghese) goons disguised as Muslims reason pain at the local temple, forces break out between the two states. The tensions quickly flame into a religious riot. Muslims and Hindus began murdering each other for the sake of their own religions. Raghurāman meets Hindu organization which is about to strike a group of Muslims who have taken refuge in a guru's ashram (a place wherever a holy guru lived and worked). But at a point, Raghurāman displays an out of the world business in the ashram. He is now in the presence of the mind.

He is taken to a world wherever everyone is hidden (Religious) and wherever people do not think in the sense of sight (Logic/common sense). Raghurāman saves people from dying and supports him. He is surprised by the perfect activities of the residents. Others really believe it as a sin to think that there is a thing called sight. Their children are shown that there is no world of view from youth (brainwashed by parents religion). When Raghurāman tries to tell them that there is a world of sight (common sense) and that he package understand, people don't hold him.

They think him evil because he can do things that they can't. Raghurāman eats a common fruit (Ilaama pazham: Symbolic of spiritual beliefs) that they have in that land. He finds out the difficult way that this delicious addictive fruit is the basis of their blindness. Now that he is blind (religious) and helpless. The king's soldiers, whom he had avoided before because of his sight, captures him. The king (Suresh Gopi) condemns him to death by taking the extract from the seeds of the corresponding fruit that delivered him blind. This form of training has nevermore been granted to anyone since.

The seeds (common sense) of the addictive products that Reghuraman eats is considered to be fatally dangerous and bitter (Atheism). After the soldiers carry out this order he is left to die. But rather, he sees that his blindness is cured by the extract of the root. He then opens the word throughout the state that their views were wrong. They still refuse to believe him. Some people take roots and practice sight. The letters with sight try to take vengeance on the people without sight. Raghurāman ends this with an outstanding dissertation.

In the end, everyone including the king is built to take the bitter seed (truth) than delicious fruit (Lie). He is brought back into the entire class by the Guru's life. Raghurāman recognizes that his thirst for vengeance by the sake of religion is a sin. He holds the protest group's plan to kill the Muslims by exploding a bomb. And help oneself outdoors following their spiritual situation.
